Voting Arrangements forLittle Cayman Electors
by Election Office
All registered electors in the electoral district of CaymanBrac and Little Cayman - Polling Davision 4 - who currently residein Little Cayman will again for the upcoming General Electionsin November have the option of voting by postal ballot or attendingthe polls at the West End Primary School.
The Elections Office considers that for a further polling divisionto be appointed it would need a minimum of 100 registered electors. The current number of registered votes on Little Cayman standsat 27, up from 16 in 1996.
There is also a logistics problem, which has to be taken intoaccount since the ballot box would have to be transported outof Little Cayman at the close of the polls. In November nightfallis around 6:00 pm and the Little Cayman airport does not haverunway lighting. Furthermore, to convey the ballot box by boatwith police, the presiding officer and any candidates or agentswho may wish to accompany it could prove a logistical nightmare. It should be noted that the count could not proceed until theballot box arrives at the counting station.
To accommodate the electorate on Little Cayman application formsto be treated as absent electors will be made available well inadvance of Nomination Day. This will allow all registered electorsample opportunity to collect, complete and forward these formsto the Registering Officer who is Mrs. Georgene Lazzari. Postalballots will not be sent to approved applicants until 7 days afternomination day as the Elections Law specifies.
It should be noted that the Returning Officer for Cayman Bracand Little Cayman, Mr. Ernie Scott, will visit Little Cayman afew days before Election Day to accept postal ballots should electorsnot wish to post theirs. This will ensure that the postal ballotis with the Returning Officer before the close of the polls.
The other option available is to attend the polling station inperson. All electors on Little Cayman who are registered in pollingdivision 4 may, if they so desire, vote at the West End, CaymanBrac polling station. However, it should be noted that if an electorhas already voted by postal ballot he or she cannot attend thepolls on Election Day.
