Track & Field AthletesSelected for Island Games

The Cayman Islands Amateur Athletic Association(CIAAA) recently held a meeting, concerning the selection of track& field athletes to attend the up-coming Island Games, whichwill be held in the Isle of Man from 7 - 13t July, 2001. The preliminarylist of athletes selected to represent the Cayman Islands areas follows:

Males

Raymond Barnes, Eric Bush, David Esdaile,Ronald Forbes, David Hamil, Chester Hurlston, Tommy Hurlston,Robert Ibeh, Stephon Johnson, Tony Keely, Michael Letterlough,Nicholas McField, Dwight Mclean, Orantis Rankine, Jermaine Seymour,Roger Smith, Eric Webster, Jay Welcome and Omar Wright.

Females

Calicia Burke, Naidelys Eden, Keisha James,Anadra Mclaughlin, Cydonie Mothersill, and Sebrina Rankine.
According to (CIAAA) President Mr. Bernie Bush, some of theseathletes were chosen based on their participation and performancesin local and overseas meets and events held during the season.Consideration was also given to athletes who are currently trainingwith local and overseas coaches.

Mr. Bush also stated that this is a preliminarylist, as there are some events where three athletes were selectedbut only two can compete at the games. In those instances, theathletes with the best times and distances will be selected. Healso noted that the athletes selected would have to meet certainstandards and follow a serious training program and schedule approvedby the National Track & Field Coach, Kenrick Williams, betweennow and the end of June to secure their final position on theteam.
