Neville Morgan Jr. hit a towering 3-runhomer to left center field with none out in the bottom of the5th inning Friday night to give the KPMG Cubs their 4th win ofthe season. The DART Braves had broke in front 2-0 but the Cubstied the game after two innings.
In the 3rd inning, the Braves used 3 hitsto take advantage of 4 walks and scored 5 runs before a singleout had been made by the Cubs. Mark Soto's double accounted for2 of those runs taking the score to 7-2. Carlos Morgan was broughtin as a relief for the Cubs, with 2 runners still on base andpromptly retired the Braves 1-2-3 without further damage beingdone.
The Cubs managed to get 3 runs back in thebottom of the 3rd inning with Carlos Morgan picking up a RBI andscoring a run also.
Morgan faced the minimum 3 batters in thetop of the 4th inning, thanks to catcher Jordan Daniel's strongarm. Daniel threw out a runner trying to steal 2nd base and pickedanother off 3rd base. The Cubs managed a single run in the bottomof the inning to pull within one, 7-6.
In the 5th inning, the Braves picked upan insurance run on an overthrow from center field to home totake the score to 8-6. In the bottom of the inning, Michael Owensand Miguel Pitta, each with a home run already this season, showedexcellent patience and appreciation of the need to get on base;as they worked walks from reliever Johnnie Johnson Jr.. NevilleMorgan, then, followed with his blast to left center field ona 1-1 pitch to win the game.
It was his 2nd hit of the game and thisgave him 4 RBI's for the evening and pushed his batting averageto .545. Carlos Morgan picked up the win, his first, to get hisERA clean at 0.00.
