Sports Person of the Week

Kennedy McGowan

Although he is not active in the sport ofVolleyball these days, Kennedy is remembered as the driving forcebehind the resurgence of the game in 1990, following its declinefor a number of years.

Beginning in February of 1990, Kennedy andother players, formed an executive and before long there were16 teams in the league.

They played competitively among themselves. Then, they went on to field a Cayman National Team in the Summerof the same year to participate in the Caribbean Challenge, returningthere two months later, to participate in more challenging games.

Not bad for a start up team of only eightmonths.

Kennedy himself was a keen player and organiserof hundreds of games over a six-year period, for the league andas fundraisers for other community events. No longer active inthe sport, he nevertheless, makes himself available to offer adviseto players, on a regular basis.

He is married to Alisa and celebrated theirfirst anniversary last February.

Kennedy's daughter, Daniella, is now 13years of age.
