Good resultsfor Cayman in Tampa

The Track and Field team representing theCayman Islands returned Monday from Tampa, Florida. Twelve ofthe islands juniors traveled to Florida to compete in The BaytafClassic '02.
Cayman Islands had excellent performancesfrom Ronald Forbes, Junio Hurlston and Andre Burton. Not to beexcluded are the girls that traveled with the team. Jenna Gaiowas the pick of the bunch placing 7th in the 200 meters, runninga time of 27.71 seconds. She returned later to win gold in thelong jump with a jump of 16ft 04 inches.
Andre Burton was a workhorse for the boys.The youngster entered four events; in the 200 meters he won bronzecompleting the distance in 23.39 seconds, silver at 400 metersin a time of 52.83 seconds. Burton then teamed up with RobertForbes, Duet Berry and Stephen Ebanks to win silver in the boy's4x100m relay.
Junio Hurlston was Cayman's most heraldedathlete bringing back two medals in distance events. He won goldin the 800 meters and silver for the1500, running 2.09.57 and4:36.35 respectively. Andrew Ibeh also ran the 800 meters andplaced fourth in 2:17.93.
The list wouldn't be complete without mentioningCayman's best young hurdler, Ronald Forbes. Ronald ran an uncompetitive400m-hurdle race and easily won in 58.55 seconds. He was laterjoined by Andrew Ibeh, Duet Berry and Andre Burton to claim silverin 4x400 meter relay in 3:39.57 seconds.
Mr. Desyouth Chambers and National TeamCoach Kenrick Williams accompanied the team to Florida and said." There were good performances for the most part. I am alittle disappointed we didn't run faster times."
Mr. Williams will be bringing a larger yet younger contingentto the Northwest Miami Classic on June 7-9
