Members of the Information and CommunicationsTechnology Authority (ICTA) Board, responsible for regulatingall ICT networks and services, including telephony, broadcasting,radio and e-business, were recently announced.
Responsible for the overall operation ofthe ICT Authority are, Dr. Chris Rose, Executive Director of theSecretariat, who has been appointed Chairman; former Directorof the Information Technology Strategy Unit, Dave Archbold, appointedManaging Director, and directors Sheri Bodden-Cowan, former Chairof the Immigration Board; Bruce Blake, Financial Controller forMaples and Calder and Glen Daykin, Director of Caribbean SecuritySystems.
"The enactment of the ICTA Law andthe establishment of the authority are the culmination of a lotof hard work by many people in the public and private sectors,"says Dave Archbold. He explains that the initial plans were laidby the Vision 2008 Round Table on Information Technology and werethen built on by the e-Business Advisory Board, the ministry staff,and the Minister for Planning, Communications, Works and InformationTechnology, the Hon. Linford A. Pierson, OBE, JP. "The boardand the authority now have the responsibility of translating theseplans and concepts into actions. I'm sure it won't be easy, butit will be exciting and rewarding to see our efforts benefitingthe social and economic development of Cayman," he concludes.
Minister Pierson agrees: "The creationof the ICT Law and the authority is a significant step forwardfor the development of e-business and telecommunications in theCayman Islands, he says. "It will be a great asset to haveall information and communications technologies regulated underthe same law and by the same body."
Chairman Chris Rose is looking forward toserving in his new capacity.
"I am grateful for the opportunityto work with the other board members and staff in bringing theICT Authority into operation," he comments, adding that thestrong team which has been put in place is well positioned tomeet the challenges ahead and to facilitate the development ofICT services and networks in the Cayman Islands.
The ICTA Board has made it a priority tocarry out open and transparent procedures. It is expected thattheir Internet site, www.icta.ky containing both applicationsand terms of licences, will be available within the next few weeks.
