Search continuesfor missing aircraft

Commissioner of Police Mr. David Thursfieldheld a press conference on Thursday afternoon bringing the publicup to date on the search being conducted for the light aircraft,which disappeared 15 miles off the coast of Grand Cayman. lastThursday, 23 May.

The Commissioner confirmed that while thesearch was continuing at a high intensity, progress is slowedbecause of adverse weather conditions. He also gave the assurancethat search would continue until there was absolute certaintyof no possible chance of finding the Pilot, Mr. John Smith, along term resident of Grand Cayman.

Outlining the duties of his department andthe role the Royal Cayman Islands Police play in incidents likethis, he introduced Ms. Juliet Gooding, Manager of 911 and Mr.Richard Smith, Director of Civil Aviation. Mr. Emphasized thatwhen accidents like these happen, there is always a process andeveryone must follow protocol.

"We've done the best job we could possiblydo." said the Commissioner. He thanked the owners of privatelyowned boats and crafts who assisted in the search and continueto do so. Two search vessels are being deployed to continue thesearch.
