With constant updates about SARS, the Water Authority Cayman took a proactive role in informing staff and preparing them for the possibility of a case of SARS on the island.

On the 6th May 2003, Dr. A. Kiran Kumar and Mr. Timothy McLaughlin-Munroe of the Public Health Department made a brief presentation to a group of staff members. Dr. Kumar and Mr.

cLaughlin-Munroe were invited by the Authority to address the concerns about business and personal travel as well as the possibility of industry related risks. Dr. Gelia Frederick-van Genderen, Director of the Authority, was happy that so many staff members turned out to hear the presentation. "Our objective in having the Public Health Department come in was to ensure that our staff is properly informed.

mployees hear and read about SARS in the news media but the facts, how SARS is spread, the symptoms, the preventive measures that should be taken to avoid SARS are not getting out. We want to make sure that our employees do their part to minimise the risk of SARS in the Cayman Islands and that all company policy and decisions relating to SARS are based on sound information and not speculation."
