Cricket advance to Division One final
Prison Cricket Club bowlers Matthew Rose (left) and Gary Tulloch shared eight wickets to destroy the Police batting and help propel their team to the final next Sunday.
Incisive pace bowling from Matthew Rose and Gary Tulloch, completely destroyed Police and set up a comprehensive seven wicket victory by Prison Cricket Club over the lawmen in the Division One cricket knockout championship at the Smith Road Oval on Sunday May 25.
Tulloch and Rose maintained a firm stranglehold on the batting on a helpful pitch, full of moisture for most of the innings. Rose with four for 28 and Tulloch, with four for 24, shot out the cops for 101 in 31.5 overs of the 44 over-a-side match.
Prison overcame a few early hiccups to cruise home at 105 for three in 25.3 overs.
Police found batting difficult on a pitch apparently affected by rain on the previous two days.
Danielle Morris was well caught by Saeed Mohammad running in from mid-off with the score on three and when Rose bowled captain Ryan Bovell at 13 for two, it was clear Police would struggle. Rose then claimed the key scalp of Pearson Best, caught in the gully by Lenworth Bailey at 24 for three and two balls later bowled Alvan Babb with a beautiful yorker that swung into him and ripped out the off stump.
Police never fully recovered despite two gritty late order partnerships, 23 for the ninth wicket between Cyril Gordon and Steven Best and 28 for the tenth wicket between Best and Cleve Hunte. Best was the only batsman to reach double figures. He ended unbeaten on 12 after Hunte was run out.
Police wasted five opportunities to break prison's opening stand within the first ten overs and by the time Kimahanie Morrison was run out for 18 with the score 38 for one, Prison was well on course.
Opener Alistair Carter batted responsibly for 31 despite an annoying back pain while Charlie Greaves was somewhat more adventurous, hitting four fours and a six in a topscore of 36.
Prison will now advance to meet By Rite in the final next Sunday.
