Letters to the editor

Quincentennial Celebrations A year-long Festival for everyone
Dear Sir,

I write in response to Mr. Dale Fogis' letter (published Wednesday, 21st May), in the other newspaper suggesting an Expat day in Cayman. As the Executive Director for the Quincentennial Celebrations I was pleased with Mr. Fogis' letter for a couple reasons, one because he enjoyed our last Quincentennial event The Seafarer's Festival and also because his suggestion for an expat day speaks directly to the next Quincentennial event we are now planning!

This event Cayman 500 International Festival - will take place June 20th and 21st at Pageant Beach and will be a celebration of the more than 94 nationalities that make up the Cayman Islands population. Mr. Fogis' suggestion that we should "recognize the important part the many people from across the waters have played over the years and for the years to come," is what this event is all about a celebration of Cayman's cultural diversity and the harmony in which these more than 94 nations reside and help to create a unique and wonderful society. International Festival will be comprised of representation of over 30 of these nations sharing their culture, arts, national pride and native food with all of us creating an event that will be educational as well as very enjoyable.

The Quincentennial Celebrations Office is pleased at the level of interest being shown in this event, and so far several countries The Netherlands, Malaysia, Colombia, Australia, Austria, Jamaica, The Phillipines, USA, UK, and Ireland have confirmed their participation, in addition to our host country, the Cayman Islands.

Since the start of this year, our Quincentennial celebrations have focused on many different aspects of the history and culture of the Cayman Islands. We have celebrated our heroes, our heritage, our ties with United Kingdom, our flora & fauna, our arts, our technology and now we will celebrate our cultural diversity.

As we continue to celebrate other aspects in the coming months, we hope that everyone in these islands will be a part of the celebrations. To find out more about all of our events visit www.cayman500.ky.

Thank you Mr. Fogis for your support of our celebrations!
