Qulaified Caymanians beingby-passed in the job market

Dear Sir,

I am a Caymanian who has spent many yearsat sea like so many of my fellow Caymanians have done so thatwe, among other things, could educate our children so that theycould one day take their place in this country.

Therefore, it concerns me that there are qualified young Caymanianswho are not being allowed to take their rightful place here andinstead, non-Caymanians seem to be able to easily fill these positions.Take, for example, the case of two young Caymanian doctors, oneof whom is my son.

While I cannot speak with any authority about all the qualificationsof the other young man, I know that he attended a good medicalschool and is now a qualified doctor of medicine.

My son, on the other hand, is a qualified medical doctor and surgeon, who has been recognised on a number of occasions for his workand involvement with particular procedures where he was an assistingsurgeon.

Both of these young doctors have been trying, without any luck,to get a proper audience with this government's health authorities.Dejected and frustrated, both have since left the island to seekemployment elsewhere. Surely, this cannot be right.

My son left here with a bad taste in his mouth and I cannot blamehim, especially as it is so evident that since he was last here, the government has brought into the island two doctors who arenot Caymanian.

This kind of treatment of our Caymanian children who have sacrificedand worked hard in the hope of coming home to serve, especiallytheir own people, is a real slap in the face and must not be allowedto continue.

Darley J Solomon, Snr.
