Letter to the Editor
This year's Pirates Week wasthe best ever
Dear Sir,
After reading the headline story in theMonday, October 30 edition of another local newspaper, one hasto wonder what planet their news writer is on.
How a local paper can complain, ridicule, and write such a disparagingstory about the Pirates Landing on Saturday (October 28]) mystifiesme. Everyone there had a great time, and we all thought it wasthe best Pirates Week beginning yet. No one else seemed to noticethe lateness, which its organisers refuted on on local televisionon Tuesday, 31 October.
No doubt, the "drunken actor" was putting on a littleshow for this reporter in mock drunkenness. And even if it weretrue, why print such a negative story? What does it achieve? Didit give the writer `points' with the newspaper's editor? Did itgive the writer joy in trying to denigrate the occasion? For heaven'ssake, lighten up!
When you realise how much hard work and dedication has been putinto an event such as this, and something that brings touristsin by the hundreds, it is useless exercise to print such a negativestory. We can do without that kind of journalism on this island.
Congratulations to Dave Martins, Colin Wilson, and all those peoplethat took part in the ceremony and worked so hard throughout theyear. You did a magnificent job - and don't let negative reportingspoil it for you. Everyone there had a great time, including thefolks from The Pines Retirement Home, and especially the children.
This letter is to let you know how much we appreciate your hardwork and efforts.
