Chamber ready to work withnew government

The Chamber of Commerce,in a congratulatory message to newly-elected representatives tothe Legislative Assembly, says it is willing to work with eachof them for the further improvement and continued prosperity ofthe Cayman Islands.

And in thanking all the candidates who participated in the forumsthat were organised in the various districts, the Chamber saidin a press statement issued on Friday, November 10 and embargoeduntil the election results were final: "We trust that theseforums assisted voters to better understand the positions of thecandidates before reaching their decisions."

"We would now urge everyone to put aside political differencesand to work to resolve the country's many challenging issues,including Constitutional Review, the White Paper proposal andthe OECD and G7 initiatives.

"The Chamber continues to offer its assistance to the governmentwith developing strategies and proposals for the continued developmentof our educational system, promoting training opportunities forCaymanians, reducing the cost of doing business and living, e-businessdevelopment, resolving many of the unsettling immigration issuesand any other area in which the government requires input fromour 650 business members who employ more than 14,000 workers.

"We would also welcome regular meetings with the new representativesin keeping with the wishes of many candidates to promote greatertransparency and public consultation."
