Cayman to compete at SwimmingWorld Cup

Members of Cayman SwimmingTeam who will compete in the
upcoming Swimming World Cup.
Two Cayman swimmers arecompeting in the 'Swimming World Cup' Nov. 15 & 16th. HeatherRoffey and Andrew Mackay, will face world class competition, swimmingbutterfly and backstroke events respectively, having met the fastqualifying standards.
A FINA (the governing worldwide body of competitive swimming)event, it is 'zoned' competition . Each zone has 3-5 locations,holding competition at similar times, to ease the strain of worldtravel. Zone One venues are Washington D.C., Rio de Janerio, Braziland Edmonton, Canada. Some other event cities are Shanghai, Berlinand Paris.
The event will be televised, shown on ESPN2 Nov 19th at 1:30pm.Breaking a world record and first place are each worth $4,000.2nd place is $2000. and 3rd gets $1,000.
This is not an 'Age group' meet, and our swimmers have met thequalifying standards. Kaitlyn Elphinstone also made qualifyingtimes in the 400 & 800 freestyle, but is resting an injury.
Meals and ground transportation is provided for foreign teamsthat host World Cup events. Cayman swimmers will be eating withthe other national teams, for a nominal sum. All swimmers maybe subject to the rigors of drug testing.
The competition will take place at the University of Maryland'sNatatorium, part of a new $142 million sports complex. The twoswimmers, Coach Dave Kelsheimer and chaperone Annie Mae Roffeywill depart right after the conclusion of the 'World Swimmer'sParty' here with Olympic medalists and will encounter some ofthem again.
