Wendy's Tarheels & EssoBlazers commited to playoff. With two games remaining in regularleague play for the Basketball Under-19 League, the Wendy's Tarheelsand Esso Blazers have secured the two play-off spots for the 2000Championship best-of-three series that will begin on Saturday,November 18, at the courts opposite Cox Lumber.
Tarheels wrapped up first place with another close win over theTitans, defeating them 64 to 60 behind their top scorer, AltonWilliams with 18 points. Fabian Thompson was again top scorerfor the Titans with 15 points.
Titans shot poorly from the free-throw line and had their top3-point shooter, Fabian Thompson, on the beach during a significantpart of the second half.
Meanwhile the Blazers blazed to an easy 95 to 47 burning of theRaptors. Colin Reid lead the Blazers with 17 points and EckerdMcField had 14 points for the Raptors.
While the Tarheels are favoured to win the play-off series thatbegins on Saturday, the Blazers are hoping for an upset. Tarheelssuffered their only defeat of the season at the hands of the Blazerswho beat them by one point in the dying seconds of their firstencounter.
Indeed the Blazers will have to be in top form to take home thegrand prize CI$800 cash award. Games being at 6:30 p.m. on Saturdayand Tuesday, and if necessary the third game will be played onSaturday, November 25. Admission is free and all are invited towhat should be an excellent play-off series.
