Chairmanof the Public Library Management Committee Jacqueline Smith addressessome 55 persons at the launch of the Friends of the Library volunteerprogramme on Thursday, November 15. Stacks of books and a spectacularreading mural provided a highly appropriate backdrop to the event.
During the ceremony, steel pannist NicholasBell performs in front of a display of the library's literacyawareness programmes. By the end of the programme more than athird of the crowd had signed up for the opportunity to assistwith the development of library services through volunteer work,public relations, advocacy, fundraising and other activities.Sign up forms are still available from the Library.
