Officials inHigh Places Should Set Examples

Personnel at a high profile government administrativeoffice are deeply dissatisfied with the attitude of the expatriatehead of that department and want the Cayman Islands governmentto officially step in to halt renewal of this person's contractwhich will shortly expire.

The attitude of this male officer for almostthree years in a department that functions on behalf of Her Majesty'sgovernment is said to be so negative that it once warranted anofficial complaint by this country's government when it was ledby a previous Leader of Government Business.

Staff currently complaining about this individual whose identity we have chosen not to publish and who helda similarly senior post in another dependent territory and wassaid to been driven out - speak of abuses of them, of the office,at least one case of an invitation to a fist fight, and most recentlyattacks on personnel assisting in the clean-up of his home afterHurricane Michelle.

"General staff relations with thisman are indescribable and his attitude is unprofessional and unacceptableto say the least. As a result two professional members of staffhave recently opted not to renew their contracts and others havealready gone.

Of the two who have chosen not to renewone was even challenged to a fist fight by this awful man in frontof the other professionals after a heated argument," onestaff member complained, and described administration the of theoffice since arrival of this person as a reign of terror.

All persons talking to Cayman Net News requestedanonymity owing to fear of job loss or some other form of recrimination.

It was decided to report their complaintsbecause Cayman Net News is aware of the person's antics and attitude, and there is information that he is trying to position himselffor appointment to another prestigious and important positionin this country.

Even if his current lobbying for the covetedpost is unsuccessful, staff have said that a senior functionaryacting on behalf of the British Government is set to renew hisappointment to the current position he holds.

Staff members speak of a dictatorial attitudeof this man and his insistence on being involved in every decision.

They say this approach has resulted in thework of government ministries being hampered.

There is also growing dissatisfaction overwhat staff say is favouritism in appointing two overseas citizens,to work in a newly formed department to oversee internationalfinancial affairs on behalf of this country.

Experienced Caymanian and other Caribbeanstaff say their unhappiness is compounded by the fact that theseappointees possess very little working knowledge in this field.

They say that a massive row erupted in thedepartment over appointment of these personnel and the issue gotattention of an elected member of the Legislative Assembly andafter complaints reached the Executive Council one of nomineesfor the position was distanced.

There are also reports of this man's verbalattacks and temper tantrums being so extreme that an assistanthas come down with complaints of ill health including hypertension. It is said that this Civil Servant, who put in some 20 years serviceworking for four other officers holding that position of departmenthead, is now considering retirement.

Cayman Net News is also aware that thisindividual already holds poor relationship with many professionalsin the private sector of this country.

It is understood that this man's most recentverbal abuses, following the clean up of Hurricane Michelle haveput him in a very unfavourable light of staff from governmentdepartments which have attempted to assist him.

In light of these complaints, and otherswhich are too embarrassing to report, it is hoped that a replacementwill be found to fill the position which so is important, andreflects the good and lawful order of the people of the CaymanIslands.
