DoT Staff Reduction
In a movewhich it said is aimed at boosting operational efficiency theDepartment of Tourism (DoT) has announced it is reducing staffin three of its offices in the United States but is keeping twoof them open despite the layoffs.

The affected offices are in Miami and LosAngeles, but the Miami Headquarters and the Miami Regional officewill remain functioning with their reduced number of employees.
In a release Monday, 26 November, Leaderof Government Business and Minister of Tourism, Hon McKeeva Bush,revealed the steps being taken which he said are in response tochallenges of a changing environment.
According to the release the review of staffingfor efficiency is restricted to the US operations of the DoT anddoes not affect the head office in Grand Cayman.
The minister was reported saying that therestructuring follows a review aimed at providing more effectiveand efficient service and greater return on investment for theCayman Islands Government. The review was commissioned in lightof the past few years' declining tourist arrivals and exacerbatedby the 11 September incidents in the US.
Mr Bush is expected to provide details ofthe restructuring of this country's tourism operations when headdresses the Annual Tourism Conference Wednesday, 28 November,at the Westin Casaurina Resort.
With news of DOT's staff reductions therewere reports of closure of the three affected offices. However,Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Tourism, Mr Charles Clifford,told Cayman Net News that the information was incorrect as theMiami operations are to be kept open and functioning.
In the release Mr Clifford said that therestructuring would mean that processes and procedures as wellas some posts within the department's US operations would be affected.
