Men and spas have been mentionedin the same breath since the mid 1990's, but substantial numbersof men have only recently begun visiting spas for massage andskincare services.
Men are suddenly willingto venture inside these traditionally female establishments. Theyhave decided it is necessary and proper to invest in themselveswith stress-release massages and age defying spa treatments. "Mencan no longer let themselves go and still get the girl-or thejob."
They are in a competitive, youth driven market just like women. To succeed in business andin love, they have to take better care of themselves.
While men of all ages maybe seeking spa services, the driving force behind this trend appearsto be the 30-something males who are just beginning to see thefirst signs of aging.
They've had the advantageof maturing during the so-called age of information, and manyof them are long-time members of the testosterone-soaked gym culture. In many ways this generation views spa services as a natural extensionof working out.
More and more men are becomingconcerned with good grooming and becoming aware of the healthaspects of making sure that skin is cared for properly. The skincare needs of men do differ from those of women to some extend, but these differences are not so great.
Men skin care products tendto be lighter, and less complicated chemically, and are designedto promote maximum soothing and healing of freshly shaved skin. These products usually do not contain perfumes or fragrances.Expect for these ingredients, they are, in fact, not that muchdifferent from the products developed for women.
With few exceptions, thesame procedures and techniques are used in giving facial treatmentto men as are used for women. Consultation and analysis, cleansing, vaporizing, disincrustation, suction, manual extraction, massage, mask application, and moisturizing and normalizing the skin areall important steps. After shaving lotions act in the same wayas an astringent or skin freshening lotion. Men may select a mildafter-shave lotion or use witch hazel. A highly fragranced lotionmay be an irritation to some skin. When the skin is dry and sensitiveafter shaving, a moisturizing lotion may be applied. Some menenjoy an after-shave talcum powder, which also soothes the skinand tones down excessive shine. ?
Men need to care for theirskin no less than women do. In particular, men need facial treatmentbecause they tend to work under harsher conditions. That is, theytend to get dirtier than women because of their out-door job requirementsand in most cases exposure to pollution because they don't havethe barrier effect of makeup that women have. Men have not beenconditioned to care for their skin.
