Minister ofCulture Accepts Peppercorn Rent From the National Museum

On the 11th Anniversary of the Cayman IslandsNational Museum the Minister for Culture the Hon Roy Bodden waspresented with a coil of local thatch rope as the annual peppercornrent, which the National Museum pays to Government for rent ofthe National Museum Building.
It was also a fitting day for discussingthe thatch craft of rope making, a Cayman tradition, as the Museumopened its 3rd exhibit in the series of "Made in Cayman"This exhibit entitled Past, Present and Future Plaited Togetherdisplays a number of traditional plaiting techniques from localCaymanian traditional master crafters. In addition there is achildren's exhibit which is both interactive as well as educationalallowing the children to try their hand at plaiting, as well aslearning more about the heritage of traditional Cayman thatchcraft.
The Hon. Roy Bodden commented "It isindeed a very well presented and interactive exhibit. I highlyrecommend it for the entire family. The silver thatch palm hasan important position in the history of the Cayman Islands andthe Museum does it again by preserving and celebrating the uniquenessof Caymanian cultural heritage by bring the past into the presentand also passing on the future to generations of Caymanian children."
The exhibit will run at the National Museumthrough the May. All are encouraged to visit this exhibit withyour families and pay a visit to the children's section.
