Tourism EducationModule For High Schools Launched

As part of the 2001 Tourism Awareness Weekactivities, a Tourism Education and Awareness Module for highschool students was recently launched. This module was developedby the Cayman Islands Department of Tourism (DOT) to provide supplementalinformation for the tourism component currently being taught inhigh schools throughout the Cayman Islands.
This endeavour is part of the continuedpartnership the Department of Tourism has with the Education Department,to ensure that the future leaders of Cayman understand the importanceof tourism to these Islands and the opportunities that exist forthem in this vital sector.
The Tourism Education and Awareness modulecovers a number of tourism subject matters including: what tourismis and its importance to the economy of the Cayman Islands; theimportant relationship between tourism and the environment; therole and structure of the Cayman Islands Department of Tourism;what is 'Excellent Quality Service' and its importance to tourism;the definition of 'attitude', and the importance of workers intourism having a positive attitude; and Career and job opportunitiesavailable in the tourism industry.
The Permanent Secretary for the Ministryof Tourism Mr. Charles Clifford handed over the first copy toMrs. Nyda Flatley, Chief Education Officer during morning assemblyon 8 November, at John Gray High School. Additional copies willbe produced in the coming weeks and distributed to all high schools.
