Vehicle andDriver Licence Office Experimental Saturday Openings a Success

Three-year-oldJustine receives change from VDLD employee Wendy Fisher on Saturday,17 November, as mother Jeanne looks on.
The Vehicle and Driver Licensing Department's(VDLD) experimental opening on Saturdays is so far an outstandingsuccess, according to employees and customers.
The George Town office, which is openingevery Saturday until 8 December between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.,has two staff members working during that time.
Speaking during the second weekend, stafferWendy Fisher said, "The first Saturday we opened we had over30 customers, and we expect at least as many again today. Despitethis, people have not had to queue, and it also serves to shortenlines during the week."
Customer Jeanne, who came in with three-year-oldJustine in tow, explained, "I work during the week and itis difficult for me to make time to come during my lunch hour.I saw in the newspaper that the VDLD was going to open on Saturdays, and I thought it a great idea. The hours are good, too."
"Although the office in West Bay opensevery Saturday, people, especially from the eastern districts, don't like to have to drive all that way just to get their carslicensed," commented cashier Niuvis Carter. "Judgingfrom the results so far, I think it would be good to continueopening on Saturdays throughout the year, even if not every week," added Wendy.
