We talk in great length about the benefits of vitamins, but what is it that makes vitamins so essential? Vitamins aids in healing and preventing deficiencies within the skin.
Vitamins are responsible for encouraging normal cellular function, protection from free-radical damage as well as promoting the repair process of damaged tissues.
There are two types of vitamins; "fat soluble" which requires the presence of fat in order to be broken down, and "water soluble" which must have a presence of water in order to be properly metabolized and used by the body and skin.
Fat soluble vitamins are: Vitamin E which has the most powerful antioxidant properties. It serves to heal, hydrate and protect the skin; Vitamin E also helps enhance the effectiveness of other vitamins;
Vitamin A which is well known for its powerful cell regenerating properties and is a highly effective antioxidant.
It has the ability to free the skin of infection and stimulates and regenerates cell proliferation.
Vitamin D is naturally produced within the skin. Ultraviolet rays makes particular types of cholesterol convert to vitamin D.
Yes, the sun does serve some good! Vitamin D's primary benefits are internal, preventing weak and brittle bones as well as mineral balance.
Vitamin K is naturally manufactured in the body and is necessary for proper blood clotting.
Vitamin C has
gained popularity and has fantastic benefits to the skin.
It is known to increase the production of collagen fibers, and
act as skin lightener.
B-complex vitamins are found widely in oral and topical products.
Most B vitamins have a greater internal benefit especially in promoting the health of the nervous system, mental awareness and easing stress.
Minerals are essential to the proper metabolic functioning of the cells.
Minerals maintain the liveliness and plumpness of cells and their activities while enhancing the effectiveness of other vitamins and nutrients.
· Diet Think about this for a moment. Circulation is the means of supplying nutrients to all of the parts of the body, as well as the skin.
What we put into our system is what will be circulated throughout and provided as nutrition. Does it not make sense that we should give it the best?
We have all heard the saying "you are
what you eat"! Well..you are, and your skin is a direct representation
of that. Eating proper foods and supplemental vitamins allows
for our external mirror (our skin) to be the reflection of a healthy
internal system.
· The 'Good' will be continued next week.
