SYDNEY, (AFP) - Australia's undisputed super lightweight world champion Kostya Tszyu has resumed sparring after a six-month rest in preparation for the January 19 defence of his three titles against 'Jesse' James Leija in Melbourne.
The 33-year-old champion eased his way back on Tuesday with four rounds against regular partner and Guyana's Sydney-based world-ranked super featherweight Gairy (Gairy) St Clair.
At least two more new sparring partners are being lined-up to help prepare Tszyu for his fight against the former World Boxing Council superfeatherweight champion.
Tszyu resumed sparring after winding up his traditional start to fight preparations, a two-week stint at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra.
Norman still leads the field in Aussie sport cash list
SYDNEY, (AFP) - Golf legend Greg Norman remains Australia's biggest-earning sportsman despite tennis world number one Lleyton Hewitt netting more than 19 million dollars (10.65 million US) this year.
According to Business Review Weekly magazine's annual list of Australia's top-50 sports earners released here on Wednesday, Norman retained his top ranking with gross income of 24.6 million dollars (13.79 million US) this year.
Norman has been far and away Australia's biggest earner in sport for many years but Hewitt closed the gap this year.
The 47-year-old's income halved in the past 12 months after he pulled in nearly 50 million dollars (28.03 million US) in 2001.
