Island Companies Launches 'Gifts for Kids' Programme for needier children

Social worker Ms. Catherine Tyson with Mr. John Rea, Managing Director of Island Companies.

Island Companies has implemented a new programme for 2002 to bring gifts to the needier children of the Cayman Islands this Christmas. In conjunction with Cayman 27's Christmas for Kids programme, Island Companies' portion of the programme has been named "Gifts for Kids".

"As one of the Cayman Islands' leading businesses, with stores all around the Island, it make sense that we offer a number of our stores as drop off point for gifts. As a relative newcomer to the Island, I'm astounded by the generosity of the people of the Cayman Islands and am confident that we will really have a significant donation for this worthy cause," says Tony Wasserman, Director of Marketing for the company.

The programme has been heartily endorsed by CI Social Services who will be responsible for distributing the donated gifts at Christmas and throughout the year.

Catherine Tyson , MSW (Social Worker) of Social Services said: "At this time of year it is really a joy to see how the entire community becomes involved in helping those in need. It is especially appreciated that Island Companies has decided to embrace this programme so enthusiastically. We, at the Department of Social Services thank everyone for their generosity and unselfish giving to allow children and families to enjoy the season of love and charity."

Island Companies has three stores as drop of points. These are: Island Clothing at the Duty Free Centre, Edward Street, London Jewellers at the Anchorage Centre and Duty Free on the beach at Galleria Plaza.

Everyone is invited to bring a new, unwrapped gift into one of the stores and place it in the boxes over the coming weeks.

The main launch of the "Gifts for Kids" programme will occur at the Island Companies Chamber of Commerce Business After Hours event on December the 5th.

Drop-off boxes however will be in the three locations as of November 27th. The event on December 5th is the ideal time to bring a gift as it is probably one of the Islands' largest and best-attended events and is really the start of Christmas spirit for many people.

Island Companies will be continuing the programme right up until December 24th to make the most of everyone's generosity at this special time.
