Sports Person of the Week

Chris Wight
Cricket runs through Chris Wight's blood.
Representing the third generation of cricketers in his family, Chris learned the sport from the age of eight and played in leagues from the time he turned 13.
Earlier this month, Chris won the Cricketer of the Year award for his performance this past year, an award he's won many times in his 30-year playing career.
It's not just his athletic skill that makes Chris such a good player. "Cricket is not just about talent," he says, " There are a lot of tactics involved. It's really a thinking man's game."
The 43-year-old Chris still has passion for the game, but other factors keep him playing.
"It's the love I have for the By-Rite team that keeps me going," says Chris, " That, and the new enthusiasm Theo Coffy has brought to local cricket since coming on in 1996."
Another aspect of cricket that Chris enjoys is its civility. "Cricket has always been known as a gentleman's game," he says with a wry smile, "and that appeals to me since I'm such a well-behaved player."
