Colourful Flags add to festive mood of the Season

The colourful vertical flags downtown developed by the Pirates Week Festival will be staying up through to the Christmas season to add some vibrancy to the port area.

Pirates Week Executive Director Dave Martins said the Port Beautification Committee Chairman, Robert Hamaty, had asked that the flags remain up to complement the general effort to add colour and appeal to the harbourside.

Mr. Hamaty said that the flags are a part of the Festival's image and can be used to extend that festive feeling into the Christmas season. "They certainly make the harbour look more welcoming and appealing for residents and visitors alike," said Mr. Hamaty, "and they convey the feeling that something special is going on."

"The decoration will be achieved at no cost to Government, since the flags are already paid for", said Mr. Martins.

The multi-coloured flags are normally put up immediately prior to the Festival and are taken down in the week after the event. This year, they will remain up downtown, along with the decorative lights put up by CUC, until the end of the Christmas season.
