The King of Cayman's Airwaves, moves up to Cayman Net News

Val Lichtenstein
News Editor, Val Lichtenstein, the nationallyacclaimed host of Radio Cayman's "Talk Today" show, tendered his resignation last Thursday September 21st, followingthe much publicised flap over the "Swiss Advisory" story.
Commenting of this development in his carreer, Val issued thefollowing statement:
"I've been with the Department of Broadcasting for just abouteight years now, and that means that eight years of hindrancewith the department's upper echolon have accumulated to the pointwhere I had been considering a change recently.
"When you add to that my intense disagreement with seniorGoverment officials over their actions and statements regardingthe now famous news broadcast of Tuesday, the 19th of September,it seemed like the right time to pick up the phone, call DesmondSeales at Cayman Net News and ask him if he had anything for me.When he said yes, and made me a generous offer, I wrote and tenderedmy resignation - effective the 31st of October.
"One factor which made this action easy for me is the committmentby Cayman Net's publisher to allow me to continue to maintainthe service to the public - and the intimate contact which I havefound so gratifying and precious - only through print - ratherthan over the air.
"I'm excited by the prospect of writing news and commentaryfor an audience that used to listen to me talk. I'm also gratefulto Desmond for his recognition of the need to reach members ofthe public whose reading skills could use some improvement, andwe are currently devising ways to bridge that gap.
"Cayman's media is being reinvented before our very eyes... and Mr. Seales' vision which took the Cayman Islands to therest of the world, while giving just about everyone living herea voice is without question. It's an exciting and challengingtime to be a journalist."
Mr. Lichenstein will take up his post as Associate Editor withCayman Net News on confirmation of the grant of his Work Permitfrom the Immigration Board."
