Government Delegation in UKfor Meetings
A delegation consisting of ExCo Membersthe Hon Truman Bodden (leader), the Hon. Thomas Jefferson, FinancialSecretary the Hon. George McCarthy, Attorney General the Hon.David Ballantyne, and Mr. Linford Pierson, JP, - an incumbentMLA in the 8 November Election, left the Cayman Islands for Londonlast Sunday, 1 October.
It was reported that this meeting will address the issues in connectionwith the KPMG report scheduled for publication in connection withthe financial operations of the Cayman Islands and other OverseasTerritories.
The Cayman delegation's trip was cancelled a few weeks ago, whenthe KPMG report was scheduled to be handed down. It is understoodthat the reason the trip was cancelled back then, was becauseof dissatisfaction by the Cayman Delegation with some of the commentsin the report.
The meetings were scheduled to begin on October 3rd and continuinguntil the 9th. The group will attend a series of top level meetingscovering a range of issues.
Overseas Territories (OTs) representatives will discuss key issuesin connection with the KPMG review of financial regulation inthe Caribbean OTs and Bermuda. Jointly commissioned by the UKand Overseas Territories governments, the report assesses theextent to which the OT's financial regulatory systems comply withinternational standards. Participants will also discuss publicationand implementation timetables in relation to operational mattersas identified in the report.
A meeting of the Overseas Territories Consultative Council isalso scheduled to take place over two days, debating topics prioritisedby council members, including good governance issues; immigrationpolicies and nationality concerns; and, sustainable developmentand natural resources.
At the invitation of the Minister for Overseas Territories, BaronessScotland, who will present the opening address, Mr. Bodden willlead a discussion forum concerning accessible justice.
Scheduled to tie in with these high level meetings, Cayman alongwith the other OTs is also invited to attend a one-day seminaron Thursday, 5th on the OECD and other initiatives. On Friday6th October, the Cayman delegation will have bilateral meetingson the FATF and related matters.
Following the delegation's October 10th return to Cayman, a statementcovering the proceedings will be issued.
