Wetlands Committee formed
The Central Planning Authority (CPA) ispleased to announce the formation of a Wetlands Committee. Thiscommittee has been formed as a direct result of the public inputreceived regarding the proosed environmental zones. These zoneswere part of the proposed amendments to the Development Plan 1997presented to the public in September 1999.
The public input received on the proposed enviornmental zonesmade the CPA aware of the perception that there is a lack of datato support the need for any measures of enviornmental protectionin Grand Cayman. The public input also reinforced that this isa very controversial issue which needs to be addressed in a verybalanced way, respecting the rights of individual landowners whileproviding for the protection and preservation of the enviornmentallysensitive areas of the island for future generations.
In light of these facts, the CPA has recommended that the WetlandsCommittee's first duty be to discuss and draft the Terms of Referencefor a study on the identification and protection of environmentalysensitive areas of Grand Cayman. The Wetlands Committee will actas the steering committee for this study and will be responsiblefor making recommendations based on the findings of this study.
