Duty Removed from Bakery Products

Dear Sir:

About eight or ten months ago, the governmenttook a decision to remove the duty from all bakery products. Afteroperating three or four months, and discovering that we couldnot survive, we wrote to the Ministers on two different occasionsand to all the LA members and not one member responded. Thesewere the kind of representatives we had.

As a result, Wholesome Bakery was forced to shut down at the endof March this year. The subject was brought up in the LegislativeAssembly and one member rose to his feet and spoke in our favor, while another member got up and spoke against us and accused usof employing a number of expatriates. We want to remind that member, that we did employ expatriates along with many Caymanians andwe would like him to know, that when we were putting meals onthe table of some of his family, by offering them employment atWholesome bakery, he was walking around the streets, with a parrotmessing on his shoulder, and perhaps that was a right job forhim.

I have invested in the Cayman Islands tens and tens of millionsof dollars, building apartments, shopping centers, etc., providingjobs for many Caymanians and expatriates alike. I challenge himto tell the public what he has done for the island other thantrying to ruin it for all concerned.
