New Web site for NDC
Everyone can now accesslocal information about substance abuse at the touch of a button.His Excellency the Governor, Mr Peter Smith officially launchedthe National Drug Council (NDC)'s new student-friendly web siteat a George Hicks High School assembly on Tuesday October 10.
With the web site displayed on an overhead projector behind him,the Governor asked students how many of them had already visitedit. After several raised their hands, he asked them to help guidehim through the entry forms for a contest to name the NDC's Caymanblue iguana mascot.
NDC Deputy Director Ms Catherine Delapenha explained that thedecision had been made to launch the site at George Hicks as studentsfrom the school had first suggested the idea two years ago.
At present, the organisation;s home-page , which is being continuouslyupdated, talks about the organisation and its goals as well asintroducing staff members. There is also information about theNational Strategic Plan for Drug Abuse Prevention and Rehabilitationand research on substance abuse and a special section for youngpeople entitled `Kid Stuff'.
The site was designed by Scottie Ny of the local firm `A ReallyLittle Company' at a cost of $7,000. Funds for the project wereprovided by the Foreign and Commonwealth Offices Overseas OverseasTerritories Good Government Fund.
