Computer ProgrammePresented to Brac Children

Deputy General Manager ofthe Bank, Mr. Carsten Oergel, presented the Sequoyah ExplorerLiteracy Program to Cayman Brac High School Principal ShirleyWahler, who accepted it on behalf of Cayman Brac's four schools27 September.

Mrs. Wahler explained that the program would be installed in allof the schools' computer labs, but would be used mainly in theprimary schools.

"The program is expected to provide a great boost to literacybecause today's kids often prefer to work with computers ratherthan traditional educational tools," she said.

Chief Education Officer Mrs. Nyda Flatley added, "Privatecompanies like Dresdner Bank are playing a very important rolein literacy in our schools," she said. "We are mostgrateful to them for their generosity."

Mr. Oergel first became aware of the need for this program inBrac schools through fellow Rotarian Mr. Fred Speirs, who is alsothe Education Officer responsible for Information, Computers andTechnology (ICT). "We at Dresdner feel it is essential tomake practical contributions in support of educational programmes,"he explained.

The Sequoyah programme is designed for use in grades three through12 and will be available to upwards of 200 children in CaymanBrac.
