The Cayman Islands will be graced with the presence of Olympicand World sprint star, the Belizean/American Marion Jones.
She arrives here November 14 on a five-day visit aimed at raisingfunds for Cayman young sports persons.
The official itinerary for Marion Jones starts on November 16with her first engagement at the Agape Family Worship Centre,where she is scheduled to address students at 10:00 a.m. Laterthat evening Ms. Jones is billed to be the guest speaker at agala Fundraising Dinner in the new ballroom of the Westin CasuarinaResort. The theme for that evening is, "Unity for Youth inSports."
Tickets for this dinner are priced at CI$100.00 per person andproceeds will go to CIAA. Companies or individuals wishing topurchase tickets can contact Bernie Bush, Caren Thompson at CUC,or Lesley Morico at Texaco. CUC and Texaco are co-sponsors ofthe visit.
On Saturday Ms. Jones is slated to open the "Marion's Mile."This is a fundraising run/walk at Crystal Harbour, commencingat 7:30 a.m.
Bernie Bush invites all to come out to run and walk with MarionJones, get to meet her and chat with her. "She is a beautifulperson always with a smile on her face," he commented.
The final engagement for Ms. Jones is a private function. Shewill be the guest of honour of the Belizean Community on the eveningof 17 November.
Marion Jones' mother is from Belize. She is quite proud of herCaribbean heritage and, in all her great achievements: the firstfemale track and field athlete to win five medals at a singleOlympic (2000), 2001 World 200m Champion, 2001 4x100m relay goldmedallist and 100m silver medallist, she acknowledged her Belizeanroots.
