Marion Jonesis Coming to Cayman

Marion Jones, the most dominant female athlete on the internationalathletics circuit since Florence Griffith-Joyner is coming tothe Cayman Islands.
She will be here from November 14 to 18, and will be the guestof the Cayman Islands Athletics Association (CIAA) and joint sponsors,CUC and Texaco Caribbean.
President of CIAA, Mr. Bernie Bush was elated and proud at theopportunity to bring someone of the calibre and charm of MarionJones to the Cayman Islands. He said, "she is not just agreat athlete, she is a great person. You could not meet a nicerperson." He indicated that they had brought other athleteshere before but it was time to bring a woman. The Minister ofYouth, Sports and Women Affairs, the Hon. Edna Moyle, registeredher agreement when, in congratulating the CIAA she said, "Iam happy that you have chosen a woman." She felt that itwould be great for such an outstanding young achiever as MarionJones to interact with our youth because it could only be to theireternal benefit.
Joint corporate sponsors, CUC and Texaco Caribbean also expressedtheir pride and pleasure in being involved in the event. RichardHew, Senior Vice-President and General Manager of CUC said, "weare very excited about Ms Jones' visit. Her presence will serveas an inspiration to our youth and boost our athletic programme."
Mr. James Tibbetts, Country Manager for Texaco, expressed similarsentiments about his Company being a partner in such efforts.He saw Marion as a "mentor and role model" for thosein athletics particularly and for women in particular. He feltthat it was a tremendous opportunity for CI athletes and youthto interact with a phenomenal, world-class personality.
