Extremely Commendableof MLAs
Thank you for allowing me space to say howhappy and thrilled I was to watch some good news on TV (Thursday4 October) for a change.
It was West Bay's MLAs: Hon. Rolston Anglin and Hon. Gline Gliddenjr informing the island that they have agreed to a reduction insalary for at least six months. This is extremely commendableof them to lead the way in this manner at a time when so manypeople have lost or are losing jobs.
Many government departments and the private sector have been askedto cut expenses/salaries. Therefore it expected that the sameis expected of MLAs and ExCo members. These are tough economictimes and if MLAs and ExCo members are finding it difficult tolive on $7,000 and $11,000 per month; how much harder it mustbe for Caymanians making average salaries of $1,500 - $2,500 permonth.
Tough times call for tough decisions. It is during difficult timesthat the quality and character of a man/woman comes to the surface. It is during these bad times that we have to reach into our soulsand try and make the best of these challenging times. The verystrongest among us need to show others that if we put God firstand good money management to work, Caymanians could really pullthrough these difficult times.
Rolston and CG, you are definitely setting the example by agreeingto also have your salaries reduced. (Unfortunately the other members:Capt Eugene and Mr McKeeva Bush were unavailable at the time ofthis interview).
As two of the youngest members of the LA you are setting a precedentfor the other members. The public is desperately yearning forgood upright leadership. Leaders who will lead by example morally, spiritually and financially.
Congrats guys.
