Wearing OurNational Pride
Dear Sir,
Since the September 11 attack on the shoresof the United States of America, Americans have turned their resolveto a patriotic fervor. Everywhere, businesses and homes displaythe flag, "Old Glory".
Windshields and bumpers of vehicles show stickers with slogansthat read: "God Bless America", United We Stand","Unity", "Courage", and "Hope"
Now that England (the UK) has come to the side of the United Statesof America to help defend freedom is there a patriotic Caymanstory that someone could write to Cayman Net News?
Maybe school children are beginning classes with "God Saveour Gracious Queen"?, "Beloved Isle Cayman"? AreCaymanian children standing outside all school buildings whilethe Union Jack is hoisted with pride to the tops of flagpoles? Are Caymanian children taught flag etiquette such as the properway to fold, store and the general care for the flag? Do we needto revisit these issues?
Freedom is not free and would that all Cayman could renew ourthankfulness for all the blessings that we have beginning withbeing born in freedom and the political stability of Great Britain.Sir Winston S. Churchill's comment about us 'never, never givingup', was not an empty cliché.
Does anyone remember when the entire Union Jack was flown andthe entire square of fabric consisted of St. George's Cross andall the other meanings in the stripes? Today, the Union Jack isa small flag in the upper left hand corner and the Cayman Coatof Arms in the lower right hand corner, symbols that are now locatedon a square of navy blue.
So, how many of you will start to display your flags? Perhapsyou will dust off your Coat of Arms of the Cayman Islands? Canwe for a minute, once again take a minute from our busy day toreflect on the fact that at the bottom of our Coat of Arms wehave taken our slogan from Psalms 24, verse 2 ' He Hath FoundedIt Upon The Seas'.
I vote Mr. Will Jackson as The Cayman Net News patriot of theday. His constant reliance on God to help him through tough timesis a constant theme woven throughout the fabric of his precious, unique stories.
To Mr. Harry McCoy: You are our National Decorated War Hero. Weapplaude you with gratefulness in our hearts for your sacrificeand devotion to the Cayman Islands.
