Morais and Engstrom Win TennisTitles

Eric Engstrom defeated Mica Koll 3-6, 6-2,6-3 to win the Men's Singles division of the Kirk Freeport TriathonTennis Tournament.

Engstrom used a steady attack from the baselineto frustrate the youngster into making numerous errors. This isthe second tournament victory for Engstrom who is from Phoenix,Arizona and now living on the Island.

A new Ladies Champion was crowned with sixteenyear old Jessica Morais defeating past champion Renate Dowell6-1, 6-1. Morais was a highly ranked junior in Portugal and movedto the Cayman Islands just a few weeks ago.

Her power oriented game was just too muchfor the steady Dowell, who had won numerous tournaments the pastfive years.

In the Mixed Doubles, Andrew Day -Lynn Lashbrookdefeated Phillip & Jennifer Wight 6-3, 6-1 to win the A divisionFinal.

Sarah Fletcher-Sheila Mackenzie finallybeat Renate Dowell-Linda Barlow after many years of trying.

The score of 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 was their typicallong two hour match but Fletcher& Mackenzie finally figuredout the way to win.
Phillip and Michael Wight defeated Joe Marzouca and Robert HaleJoe Marzouca in the final of the Men's doubles. This was alsoa long one with the Wight brothers coming out the victor witha 6-4, 3-6, 6-4.

The Tournament was sponsored by Kirk Freeportfor the first year. The Duty Free company donated numerous prizessuch as vases, paper weights, clocks and wine glasses. The TennisClub would like to thank Gerry Kirkconnell for his generosityin helping make this Tournament one of the best ever.
