The Miss Cayman Islands 2000 Black-Tie Ballwas held at the Marriott ballroom on Saturday, August 12.

The eight contestants for the title of Miss Cayman appeared inelegant evening gowns and were welcomed with looks and soundsof admiration from those in attendance. The exquisite settingof the Marriott Resort's ballroom perfectly complemented the auraof the evening.

Mrs. Carol Ebanks offered an opening prayer and the Cayman Islandsaward-winning Culinary Team served the guests a scrumptious arrayof delectable dishes. Following dinner, the contestants were officiallypresented, and guests were entertained by the sounds of localband, CMX5.

Among those in attendance were the Honourable Mr. Thomas Jefferson,Minister of Tourism; MLA Mrs. Heather Bodden, Chairperson forthe Miss Cayman Beauty Pageant; Mrs. Jackie Tyson, personal trainerfor the contestants; Miss Mona Lisa Tatum, the reigning Miss CaymanIslands; and Miss Anya Rankine, Miss Teen Cayman 2000.

The opening address was delivered by Mr. Jefferson, who is creditedfor the revitalisation of the Miss Cayman Islands Beauty Pageant.He turned the spotlight to MLA Mrs. Heather Bodden, whom he praisedfor her dedication to the event.

Miss Heather gave special praise to Mrs. Jackie Tyson, whom shecredited with "turning out these ladies fit for kings."The Chairperson also indicated that the girls are exhibiting morewarmth, poise, and beauty than ever before and commented: "Thejudges will have a task to perform in choosing the winners forthis year's contest."

Master of Ceremonies for the event was Mr. Phillip Barnes, a memberof the Miss Cayman committee.
