Young Caymanian LeadershipAwards 2001 Nominations Now Open

George Town, Grand Cayman, 9th August 2000- Nominations are now open for the Young Caymanian LeadershipAwards 2001.

The Awards, now in their second year, are managed by The YoungCaymanian Leaders foundation, a non-profit organisation whosemission is to recognise, and foster the development of leadershipqualities in young Caymanians. A key objective of the Foundationis to assist the fund-raising efforts of community-based initiatives,especially those that target young people.

Anyone may nominate a Caymanian of their choice for this prestigiousaward. Nomination forms can be collected at the Television Centre,Cable & Wireless, Foster's Food Fair and Texaco. They arealso being distributed by mail or fax and and may be obtainedby calling Melissa Cole at 949-1000.

The awards are managed by an Honorary board compised of 14 prominentCaymanians who were selected for participation based on theirestablished positions in the community as well as their abilityand willingness to serve as role models for the younger generation.

Nominees for the YCLA must be between the ages of 20-35 years,and must have demonstrated strong leadership qualities throughtheir personal as well as professional accomplishments. Candidatesare asked to meet the selection criteria determined by the HonoraryBoard and listed in the nomination forms. These include such factorsas character, professional achievements, community involvementand commitment to helping others. Past academic performance andlevel of education may be considered but are not a prerequisitefor consideration.

The YCLA 2000 award went to Mr. Olivaire Watler, an attorney atMaples and Calder. The keynote speaker at the awards ceremonywas Mr. Mike Huckabee, governor of the State of Arkansas. Proceedsfrom last year's Awards went to the Drug Task force.

The YCLA 2001 Awards will be presented at a gala evening awardsnight scheduled for early in 2001. The event, like last year's,will be televised and will be attended by hundreds of Cayman'stop community and business leaders, as well as government representativesand local students.
