LETTER TO THE PUBLISHER
Election Notes
Dear Sir:
It is Election time again and all thegrave concerns are being brought to light. Issues that so longhave only gotten lip service for the last decade have once againsurfaced to encourage votes. I do hope that the voters are noteasily tricked this time around with vague promises.
Just to pay politicians is draining ourtreasury. If it takes so much money to sustain politicians inthis Island then the same must apply for the working people whoreally get the work done.
The huge salary gap that politicianshave put between the working people and themselves is rediculous. Thanks for the fund for scholarships etc. that was started fromthe excess salaries of some politicians. Inflation keeps on goingup but our salaries stay the same.
We are like consumer slaves chasing inflationbut never catching it. The high interest rates charged is unreasonable,we MUST have lower rates. With regards to loans, even if you don'twant a loan it seems like you have to get a loan in order to getanything here, even if you're working two jobs - all because ofthe high cost of living.
It is difficult for people to make endsmeet. Our tolerance is getting less, Government you have yourselfto blame for much of this current mess. There was no foresightjust short-term gain for the present day pain, and now it is reapinghavoc on a lot of souls - still you want that X at the poles!
I would like to suggest that if our salarieswere uup to par with the high standard of living that we boast,it would be much more comforting. Caymanians must be able to afforda home so they can have a sense of belonging here.
Lower or stop the heavy duty on foodand commodities that we need daily, and don't allow developersto buy out half of our Island and yourself. We want the abilityto keep up with the highest standard of living that we so proudlyboast about, we need to make a life here not only a living.
Another matter is Cable and Wrielesswith their outrageous Internet and Telecommunications prices.Where else in the world do you have to pay so much for so little? We must pull together Cayman and rectify all this. Please getas many signatures on the petition as possible.
Here is a bit of advice to you politicians- "You have to Fight for the People Not for the Powerful"- as said by Vice President Al Gore in his political speech.
