This Saturday evening, September 28th, HosannaUniversal Music Ministries (HUMM), a Jamaican-based Gospel Musicpromotion entity will be working in association with ADRA, theAdventist Development and Relief Agency of the local Cayman IslandsMission of Seventh Day Adventists, to bring its highly successful"Spirit of Caring" campaign to Grand Cayman.
HUM Ministries first attained recognitionin Jamaica when it staged a grand fund-raising gospel concertfor an urgent operation for Ms. Nicole Dunkley, a 28 year-oldJamaican woman who had been diagnosed with an extremely rare andserious medical condition known as Tail-gut cyst. This conditionaffects roughly one in 28 million people across the world.
A Tail-gut cyst is an enclosed pocket onthe lower intestine, which is gradually filled with fluid. Thisbuild-up of fluid gives off a very unpleasant odor since thereis no outlet for its releas. The fluid build-up causes an internalinfection, thus generating a very high fever. In Ms. Dunkley'scase, the cyst had been cutting tracks through the organs in herbody, trying to release the build-up of the fluid
The fundraising concert for Ms. Dunkleytook place this past April 6th, and the evening raised more thanthe US$20,000 that Ms. Dunkley needed for her operation. On May6th Ms. Dunkley had her surgery and is today living a normal, happy and thankful life.
HUMM's efforts in the community did notstop there. The success of the event was such an inspiration thatone month later HUMM hosted another fundraiser and raised US$30,000to help Mrs. Betty-Ann Gilmore, a 31 year old mother of three, have facial surgery to correct a rare bone disorder called fibrousdysplasia.
This condition causes bones in the faceto grow out of proportion, causing massive swelling to the person'sjaw and entire face including the eyes, which in Betty-Ann's case, were gradually being pushed out of her head. Mrs. Gilmore hadher surgery this August, and is in the process of recovery.
This is the first time HUMM will be doingthis fundraiser outside of Jamaica. As reported on the August16, 2002 issue of Cayman Net News this concert will be raisingfunds to build a home for Mrs. Leatrice Robinson, an elderly womanwhose physical and medical problems have rendered her unable tocontinue to work and thus has become indigent.
An array of talented gospel artists willbe taking the Lion's Centre stage. Among them will be internationalrecording artiste, Michael Harris from 3ABN TV International (CaymanAdventist TV) who is reputed to have one of the best bass/baritonevoices in the business, will be the featured guest artist.
