Marina in St. Martin billedas most prestigious in the Caribbean
After ten years of delicate planning andreadjustments, the multi-million-dollar mega-yacht marina in MarigotBay is finally complete. Fort St. Louis Marina, as it will becalled, will be officially opened on St. Martin Day, November11, according to an article in the Daily Herald.
However, since all the facilities are alreadyin place, with a 24-hour security service, owners have decidedto open for business as of October 1.
This project cost some 3 million euros andwas partly funded by the European Community, the Regional Councilof Guadeloupe, the Commune of St. Martin and the holding companyof the marina.
Director of the project Jean Paul Fischerdisclosed at a press conference that three persons had alreadybeen employed to run the marina. The manager is Etienne Placard,assisted by Claude Joseph, while Jean-Mitchel is operations manager.According to Fischer, the project will create 10 to 15 new jobsonce all phases are completed.
Fischer boasted that the new marina is amongthe most prestigious in the Caribbean and its location is idealand convenient. "We wanted to add an added attraction tothe tourism product of St. Martin because the mega-yacht and boattimesharing industry are among the most rapidly growing in theworld," Fisher said in a statement.
The marina will provide a number of servicesto clients, including water, electricity, Internet, washrooms,Laundromat, spare parts and accessories, among others. There willalso be a fuelling station and a seven-day 24-hour security guardservice. Clients will also be able to leave their shopping listsat the activity desk and be assured of same day delivery of groceries.
According to Placard, the facility willbe able to accommodate 150 to 180 yachts of various sizes at anyone time at competitive and reasonable prices. Fischer stressedthat boats would not be allowed to moor for more than two months,because "we do not want to create a nomad situation whereyacht owners come and live on their boats for indefinite periods."
