Water Authority DonatesBackhoe to Prison

Her Majesty's Prisons, Northward and Fairbanks,recently received a donation of a backhoe, courtesy of the CaymanIslands Water Authority.

According to the Assistant Director of PrisonsRon Oldfield, inmates who learn how to operate and service thebackhoe will use it to beautify the grounds and install a septictank at Fairbanks, as well as assist with additional buildingprojects and the prison's farm.

"I am absolutely delighted with thisdonation from the Water Authority," he stated. "Thisinvestment in the prison is not wasted, since the prison remainsa part of society," he added.

"We are happy to assist the prisonswith agricultural and training programmes that inmates can benefitfrom immediately, as well as later, when they leave prison witha marketable skill," stated Dr. Gelia Frederick-van Genderen,Director of the Water Authority.

The backhoe, she noted, has been well maintainedand is a very dependable machine. Inmates who complete a practicalcourse on backhoe use, maintenance and repair will receive a diploma.
