Grand Finale for the NationalTrust's Cricket Tournament!

National Trust's Third Annual Six-A-SideCricket Tournament, which began this past summer, finally heldits final matches was finally on Saturday, September 14th.

The winner of the professional divisionwas the By-Rite team, but trophies were also given out to thoseindividuals who had the most runs, most wickets and for the bestfieldsman.

Pearson Best, of the Eagles, received thetrophy for most runs, George Johnson, of Paramount, had the mostwickets and Saheed Mohammed, of By-Rite, was the best fieldsman.

The joint winners for the amateur divisionwere Quinn & Hampson and ABC Trenching 6-Pack. In this categorythe most run's trophy was given to Joseph Kirkconnell of ABC Trenching6-Pack, Gideon Richards of Prophecy for the most wickets, andStephen O'Donnell of Maples and Calder for best fieldsman.

Coach Theo Cuffy and Robin Johnsen-Malone,organizers of the event, state that they have now decided to runthe event over two days.

"It just makes more sense," saysCoach Cuffy. "That way we build up the anticipation plusthe players get some rest prior to participating in the gruelingfinals".

"From a promotional aspect, this eventhas gained increased visibility and by making it a two day eventit will help to increase awareness about cricket and what theNational Trust does," added Ms. Johnsen-Malone of the NationalTrust.

"We had a lot of support from the communitythis year" Ms. Johnsen-Malone continued. "A couple ofour sponsors like the Vibe and Maples and Calder put teams togetherfor the event. I was really impressed by the enthusiasm and commitmentthat all the teams displayed. Maples and Calder's team were outpracticing one month prior to the event."

The Trust will continue to run this greatevent in conjunction with the Cayman Islands Cricket Association.If anyone is interested in putting a team together for next year,volunteering at the event or helping to sponsor the event pleasecontact Robin at 949-0121.
