Dominica’s Prime Minister Visits Cayman
The
Cayman Islands hosted a visit from Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerritt of
Dominica, who arrived on Grand Cayman last Friday afternoon and stayed through
Wednesday. Mr Skerritt, who is 31 years old, took office after former
Dominica Prime Minister Pierre Charles died of a heart attack on 6 January
2004. He is the youngest person ever to hold the office of Prime Minister in
the Caribbean...

New Solicitor General Arrives
Kurt
DeFreitas OBE, QC, has been appointed as the new Solicitor General for the
Cayman Islands, the Portfolio of Legal Affairs announced earlier this week.
Mr DeFreitas will succeed Stephen Hall-Jones who has served as Acting
Solicitor General since 2003, following the appointment of former Solicitor
General Samuel Bulgin as Attorney General. Mr DeFreitas comes to
the Cayman Islands after having served most recently as the Attorney General
of St Helena...

The Cabinet has agreed that the current rate of import duty
on aggregate will continue unchanged until further notice. The current Port
Authority fee applied to the importation of aggregate is $2 per short ton and

Moving
from Orlando, Florida to Grand Cayman last November had only one stipulation
for the manager of the General Nutrition Centre (GNC) store, David Pattaway.
