Bringing Home The Gold
Cayman’s
swimmers were the toast of the Islands this week after topping the medal table
at the CARIFTA Championships in Nassau, Bahamas. Several outstanding
performances produced a string of gold medals and an Olympic qualifying time
for 16-year-old Shaune Fraser who will now be spending part of his school
holidays in Athens competing at the very highest level. The squad’s
showing delighted coach Dave Kelsheimer who has encouraged his swimmers
to strive for excellence...

Boys Burned By Seawater
A 13-year-old boy is still recovering after being hospitalised with
second-degree burns to his hands caused by chemicals in the seawater following
a kayaking trip off Governor’s Harbour. Philippe Olivier Fortin from Canada,
and his friend, also 13, were kayaking in the Crystal Harbour area on
Saturday, 10 April, when their hands got splashed with seawater...

will have another chance this Saturday to show off their driving skills in
another motor competition at the MattSafe Safe Driving Workshop. The
workshop, which will take place at 9 am on Saturday, 24 April at the Stephen
Jared Ebanks Youth Centre, will test teens’ knowledge of their cars as they

Look
at this face full of character and one can start to see the wonderful woman
residing in the NCVO Retirement Home, Rebecca Hydes. “They treat me good
here and I like that. What makes me really happy is when my people come
looking for me,” she said. Rebecca has lived in the retirement home for
10 years, the first of four of which were spent with her husband. She
started her life not far from the home. She was born in George Town many years
ago, behind Merren’s Shop...
