Celebrating the Carnival Spirit of Batabano 2004
Batabano
revellers of all ages took to the streets on Saturday afternoon for the
colourful street parade that stretched from the West Bay Road to North Church
Street. Helped along by an excited crowd, participants got fully into
carnival spirit as they danced and skipped the length of the parade.

Two Road Accidents Over Weekend
Cayman Islands Traffic Police were kept busy over the
weekend responding to two separate road accidents. A traffic accident in
the vicinity of Shedden Road last Saturday, 8 May, resulted in a woman being
taken to the Cayman Islands Hospital suffering from neck pain....

Immigration flooded with temporary work permit applications
The Immigration Department has been flooded with applications for temporary
work permits, placing additional pressure on staff and causing delays in
approval. Chief Immigration Officer, Gerry Maguire acknowledged: “We
have had an influx of temporary permit applications which is a nice reflection
on the economy but it is causing a number of delays at the moment.”...

Cayman Free Press shareholder lawsuit soars to $1.25 billion
US media group Hollinger International added $1 billion to
its lawsuit against British media mogul Conrad Black and some of his
associates, accusing them of racketeering, the Chicago-based company said.
Hollinger International had been asking for $200 million in damages in US
District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, accusing its ousted
chairman Black and others of receiving unauthorised payments...

Salcena
There
is a new shoe store in George Town and this man, Edgar Salcena, is the owner
and manager. Tsinelas is the name of the store, from the Tagalog word
for slippers. The store is opposite the George Town Police Station.
Originally from Manila, while growing up Edgar watched his parents make shoes
for their living. His sister back home has made most of the shoes on display
in Tsinelas...
