Ritz Cayman gets $4.46m duty waiver
According
to a letter written on October 22 last year by the then Financial Secretary, the
Hon George McCarthy, and signed on his behalf by the current Financial
Secretary, the Hon Ken Jefferson, the Cabinet has granted the Ritz Carlton Grand
Cayman a waiver of import duty amounting to US$4.46 million. The Cabinet
had apparently been asked by the Ritz Carlton Grand Cayman to waive US$22.3
million in import duty...

Mystery of the derelict vehicles
There is a growing mystery that seems to be surrounding the sale arrangement regarding over 1,500
derelict cars now waiting at the Sparky Drive holding area. Despite the
many questions that have been posed to various departments and agencies, no
one in position of authority seems able or willing to provide the information.

Cubans flown back home under new guidelines
Cuban
migrants travelling to the Cayman Islands without documents are beginning to
feel the weight of the new guidelines passed by cabinet that came into force
on 11 January 2005. Fifteen undocumented Cuban migrants were kept at
Northward and three at Fairbanks prison facilities for several days after

Victims make that all-important call
Within a twenty-four hour period recently, five victims of domestic violence called the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service (RCIPS)

Caymanian of the Week - Ernie Rivers

After working in the police force for 23 years and retiring as a sergeant, Ernie Rivers wanted to try something different so he started a taxi service. “I enjoy meeting people from all nationalities and I like to tell people about my Island,” said Mr Rivers. He has been driving a taxi for four years and said it has its ups and downs, but most of it is good.
