Remit of Ombudsman needs change
The
Minister for Education, Culture and Human Resources believes that one of the
principal responsibilities of the Complaints Commissioner should be
investigating issues involving the hiring and the firing of civil servants. The Hon Roy Bodden told
Cayman Net News, “I am surprised and disappointed that it is not part of
his remit to investigate allegations of discrimination and unfair dismissal

Four road deaths in nine weeks

Since the beginning of 2005, four people have been killed as a result of injuries sustained in motor vehicle accidents. This includes two people who died in two separate accidents that occurred only one day apart - in the early morning and late night hours on 5 and 6 March, respectively. Over a 24-week period, July to December last year, four road fatalities occurred in the Cayman Islands....

String of violent robberies gives cause for concern

On Friday 4 March three robberies were reported to the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service (RCIPS)
adding to the recent fears of a serious increase in criminal activity in the
Islands over the last few months. The robberies occurred in the early
morning around 1:15, 3:30 and 7:00 am respectively. In the first attack a male
victim said two unknown males, one of whom appeared to have a firearm took a

briefing last Friday 5 March, the impression was given that as these gatherings
are informal modes of transferring information to those attending, no direct
quotes should be made. Members of the media are finding it increasingly

Person of the Day - Burke Connolly

Credited with playing a vital role in getting the systems of the Civil Service Association Co-operative Credit Union office up and running immediately after the passage of Hurricane Ivan is Burke Connolly from North-Side.
